This Institute was the first to start the full-fledged Prosthetic and Orthotic Workshop and training programmes in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics in entire South – East Asia. The pilot workshop in Prosthetics & Orthotics was set up under the aegis of U.N.I.C.E.F with inputs from foreign experts along with the machinery. These foreign experts trained locally available skilled craftsman in the art of manufacturing orthotic & prosthetic appliances.
The concept of fabrication & fitment technology has undergone a transformation over the years with most emphasis in the last decade. The P&O Department has always strived to keep in pace with the changing trends in the field, while being aware of the basic needs of the patients of our country.

Core services offered by the department include following programmes:
I. Fabrication of aids and appliances as per prescription for the various Orthopaedically handicapped categories such as
- Lower-Limb Orthoses
- Lower-Limb Prostheses
- Spinal Orthoses
- Upper- Limb Orthoses
- Upper-Limb Prostheses
- Plastic Appliances.
- The department has assigned a dedicated team for designing and fabricating customized orthoses for diabetic patients.

V. Department also works as faculty for carrying out UG/PG courses for various Rehab disciplines Viz; PT, OT, MSW, Nursing and Bio-Medical Engg.
VI. Department also conducts a full time Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) programme of 4years duration and Masters in Prosthetics & Orthotics (M.P.O) of 2 years duration affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik.
