Dr. B.D. Athani, Addl. DG & Director, All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mumbai, has been working in the institute as a specialist in the field of Orthopedics and Physical medicine and Rehabilitation since 1986.
His first term as Director was from 1993-1998 and second term was from 2001 – to date. He is one of the renowned Pediatric Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Specialists in the country. He has to his credit the unique development of Gait Analysis, CAD-CAM Technology, e-governance and completion of Main building of the institute with state of the art Operation Theatre. He is a recognized teacher for Prosthetic and Orthotics, MD(Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)and DNB(Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation)

WHO Assignment:
He has been the Principal Investigator in many WHO assignments like Community Based Rehabilitation- “A Pilot Project on CBR in Mumbai, Urban Slum. (1st August, 2008 to 25th August, 2009.) and currently in an ongoing project - “Development of Training module for Peripheral Health Workers with regard to CBR Approach”
